Service

In August of 2018, I was honored to be receive the Presidential Award for Excellence in Service, a university-wide award.  I’m involved in many service activities at the University and in my professional life.  I serve on numerous university, college, and departmental committees. I am a former member of the Faculty Senate as well as the Faculty Advisory Council in the College of Education.  I am also an Ally.

Additionally, I recently served a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the International Literacy Association (ILA). I was also the co-sponsor of the San Marcos Student Reading Council, a Texas State student group that is affiliated with ILA through 2020. I am also an active member of LRA (the Literacy Research Association), ChLA (the Children’s Literature Association), NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English), TALE (Texas Association for Literacy Education), and TCTELA (Texas Council of Teachers of English Language Arts).

I am also a proud member of the following academic honor societies: Kappa Delta Pi, Alpha Upsilon Alpha, Phi Kappa Phi, and Phi Delta Kappa.
